A TABLE tennis coach has been named the region’s volunteer of the year by a national sports body.
Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club secretary Carol Rodway has been awarded North East Volunteer of the Year in the Pride of Table Tennis Awards.
The five-year-old club has also been shortlisted for Club of the Year - making it the second time in three years the club has been finalists, having won the award in 2016.
Matthew Porter, club chairman, said: “Carol works hard delivering coaching sessions in schools, doing the clubs registers and catering at the clubs tournaments along with all the clubs social events. There’s a lot of very strong clubs and a strong army of volunteers so to get the recognition from the North-East committee shows in such a short space of time the club and volunteers are well regarded.”
Run by Table Tennis England, a total of ten regions around the country have named their winners in four categories – Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Coach of the Year and Contribution to Table Tennis, with each winner being considered for the national award.
The Pride of Table Tennis Awards National awards will be held during the PG Mutual National Championships at the Copper box, in London, on March 3 and 4.
