Technology at Bishop Barrington is delivered in 5 classrooms across the school. There are specialist workshops for Resistant Materials, Food, Textiles, Applied Manufacturing and Product Design.

In Years 7, 8 and 9, every pupil experiences the different Technologies we offer on a term-at-a-time basis, eg Pupils will attend one full term of Resistant Materials before moving on to attend a term of Textiles.

At the end of Year 9 all pupils will have experienced the full range of Technologies we have on offer and are able to make an informed choice for their 'Options'.

In Years 10 and 11, pupils can undertake study in a number of ways, the traditional pathway for some students, or a more vocational pathway for other students.

We have close links with other departments in the school and our services and resources are often called upon by pupils studying Art, PE and Expressive Arts.

To compliment lesson time the department also gets involved in quite a few after school activities.

  • Year 5 and 6 pupils come to visit the department and experience forms of Technology that wouldn't normally be available to them in a Primary school.
  • Some of the younger (and lighter) pupils recently buildt an electric racing car and took part in the Greenpower Challenge.
  • The school is regularly visited by the Army who bring a range of team building activities for students to try out.
  • Teesside University have invited a number of our students to take part in "master classes" to study alternative energy sources such as wind power and hydrogen cells.
  • Throughout the year the department takes part in a wide range of other competitions that involve designing as part of a team.
