PSHE & Citizenship
Citizenship, Personal, Social and Health Education involves themes that will help students with the skills and factual information they need to make decisions for their lives. Throughout KS3 we highlight National and International Awareness days or weeks. These can include:
- Anti Bullying
- National Smile Week (Dental Health)
- HIV/AIDS Awareness
- Human Rights
Lessons can be led by mentors (bullying), the school counsellor (coping with stress), Connexions (the careers service) or health professionals. The PSHE teacher becomes classroom helper in these sessions.

Most of Year 8 is linked with Careers and Financial awareness as we "play" The Real Game. Each student is given a job and has to organise their life around their income. If they spend everything on accomodation, food and transport, then they cannot have those new trainers! It is an eye opener - which makes things like council tax become a reality.

- Choice. What Choice? (Options)

Year 9 pupils will also take part in a Sexual Education Roadshow, which is organised by the school nurse team.
In years 10 and 11, we follow a programme that deals with citizenship issues, e.g. Law, Politics, the Economy, Parenting and also Mental and Physical health issues.
