Careers Education & Guidance

Careers Education & Guidance is provided to every pupil from year 7 to 11. In Key Stage 4, pupils have a designated 60 minute session once a fortnight, in which a scheme of work directly linked with The Careers National Framework is delivered. Key Stage 3 CEG is delivered within the PSHE schemes of work, managed and coordinated by Mrs. Walker.

CEG at Bishop Barrington does not begin and end with Bishop Barrington School. We have many close partnerships with local FE colleges, training providers and universities. We work closely with companies such as DBLP and Business Dynamics to ensure that pupils access informed and varied information and advice.

The school has a partnership agreement with Connexions, Moira Wilson being the school's Connexions Personal Advisor. Group interviews and drop-in sessions are arranged throughout years 9 to 11 to provide advice and information on a wide range of issues, from choosing GCSE options to finding out how to apply for an EMA.

At Key Stage 4 pupils embark on either a 1 week or 2 weeks' work experience placement. Pupils have the opportunity to choose their own placement and are carefully guided throughout. The skills developed during work placement are valuable not only to the school curriculum but to future employers. Pupils undergo a detailed preparation and de-brief of their work experience placement.

Each pupil on entering year 7 will receive a Progress File, this is an active record of achievements and progress which is maintained throughout their school life and beyond. Documents such as employers' reports from work experience, CVs and Academic Reports are stored in the pupil's Progress File.
