Providing a creative outlet for pupils is vital to an inclusive education. The Art Department is crucial to encourage creativity and the use of thinking skills that can help pupils to develop confidence and their ability to communicate with others. The Art Department provides two rooms full of inspiration and displays of pupils work. Teachers try to promote a creative atmosphere where pupils feel confident to explore their own ideas. Independent learning and use of initiative is vital to the work pupils will produce.
Key Stage 3
During KS3 pupils explore a wide variety of media and skills to prepare them for the requirements of KS4. Topics covered include Surrealism, Graphic Design, Still Life, Abstract Art, Impressionism and Cubism. Work includes both 2D and 3D elements with extensive use of ICT and cross curricular links.
KS4
The Applied Art and Design course offered at KS4 allows pupils to gain at least two GCSEs in Art and Design. This is a fairly new course and Bishop Barrington is heavily involved in the course's development within the region. Pupils will learn of the opportunities given by having qualifications in Art and Design and work extensively with visiting artists.
