We strive to reach our aim by creating a climate of high quality teaching, firm but fair discipline, below average class sizes and a caring pastoral system.

Aim Higher

Newcastle Guide to Student life 2005

Aimhigher County Durham is part of a national initiative to raise levels of participation in higher education. Our task is to work together to set up a range of activities which will encourage more people to consider entering higher education and help them to succeed in gaining a place.

Bishop Auckland Aimhigher Roadshow 05

Delivered by the national Aimhigher initiative and Teesside and Newcastle Universities April 2005.

Year 9 - The afternoon event involved 30 year 9 pupils who are gifted and talented in subjects across the curriculum working with local universities. Bishop Barrington School worked in partnership with King James I Community College and St. John's RC School.

The focus was on raising awareness of university education and life as well as raising aspirations with the potential to go onto higher education.

University of Teesside Masterclasses

ICT Master Classes October 2005

I went to Teesside University to study animation. The animation we created involved a story about the actions of a troll. Our group did a 'Wild West' theme. We were all assigned to a 'blog' where we could post comments and ideas.
On the first Monday of October half term we went to St. John's RC School to study animations further.
Our final visit to Teesside University involved finishing our animations. Afterwards we went on a tour of the university campus. I really enjoyed the master classes - they were an educational but fantastic four days!

Stephen Penn (Year. 10)

I went to the University of Teesside as part of a voluntary master class where we were allowed a taste of the life at university and what it offers. We studied animation using programmes like Macromedia Flash. The animation we created was an educational video for young children, which was great fun to make. We learned different skills and it was a worthwhile few days. I now want to study at Teesside University myself.
