Outstanding netball player, 14-year-old Rebecca Neil, has been selected for the National Talent Squad, competing against older girls, aged up to 19.

Rebecca, a Year 10 student at our school, will attend her first squad training session on Thursday, October 16, at Team Northumbria, in Newcastle on Thursday, October 16.

"I am really pleased to have been chosen," said Rebecca, who is a step closer to her goal - to play netball for England.

"The standard is really high. I am looking forward to playing with them and it will help me improve my game," said Rebecca, who is captain of the school's U15 team and plays for the North East's most successful club, Oaksway, Hartlepool.

Players selected for the National Talent Squad are considered to have the potential to move into the U21 and/or national squads within ten years.

Northumbria University, home to Team Northumbria Super League team, serves as an England Netball Centre for home training for all potential and talented athletes who are in the England Youth Squads.

Rebecca has already gained county and regional honours. Last year she was selected for South Durham and Cleveland U14's county netball squad and also gained a place at Team Northumbria Junior Academy.

She prefers to play Centre or Wing Attack, however she can also excel in defence. She would like to be a PE teacher or physiotherapist.

Bishop Barrington PE teacher, Debbie Hepple, said: "It's fantastic she has been selected for the squad, at the age only 14. She is an exceptional netball player with great potential."

Rebecca has recently taken on the role of umpire for the younger teams and has been well praised by visiting teams' staff.
