A recent Ofsted report on Bishop Barrington was glowing in its praise for a wide range of the school's approaches to teaching and learning. Inspectors stated that, "Standards are rising year-on-year and are improving at a faster rate that in most other schools." This confirms the positive attitude to pupil progress which is firmly embedded throughout the school.

Ofsted noted particularly that students, "Achieve well because they are taught well and are motivated to learn." The proof of this was their observation that, in the school's stimulating environment, "Lesson activities were interesting, challenging, conducted at a good pace and employed a variety of teaching strategies."

These key elements contribute most effectively to students' enjoyment of education as a well as significantly helping them to progress towards success in national tests and GCSE's. In fact, the inspectors noted that, _"Tracking and assessment systems to help students reach challenging targets in national tests are exceptionally good.

It was very pleasing to see how Ofsted commented on the students' community awareness. "Students pride themselves in their positive contribution to the wider community, and they generously support a range of local and national charities."

The school believes that this attitude flows directly from the dedicated work that all staff invest in personal development across the school.

It was precisely this ethos that led the inspectors to comment on several occasions how they considered the care, guidance and support for all students in the school to be outstanding.

The school is truly proud of its learning community and finds particular strength from its close, active and mutually supportive relationship with the parents. If the school can develop a love of learning, a feeling of self worth and a concern for others, then its main objectives are being achieved.
