Rebecca, aged 13, a year 9 pupil at our school, has been selected for Team Northumbria Junior Academy, the regional netball development squad, after attending trials at Northumbria University, on October 18.
Before dashing off to attend the trials that evening, Rebecca shone in a school netball match, in which Bishop Barrington beat Teesdale School 16-6, at home.
At the trials, Rebecca, who earlier this month (Oct) was selected for South Durham and Cleveland U14's county netball squad, didn't get to play centre, her favourite position, however, she obviously impressed the selectors with her ability to switch positions, and played wing attack, goal attack and shooter.
"I enjoy playing netball and was pleased to be selected," said Rebecca, who also plays for Bishop Auckland Netball Club in a local U16's league.
Linda Johnson, a PE teacher at Bishop Barrington School, said: "We are delighted for Rebecca. It is a marvellous achievement. She is an outstanding netball player and can play any position."
An all round athlete, Rebecca has also represented the school at cross country, rounders and golf. She also plays football. Her favourite sport is horse riding. She is a member of The Zetland Hunt Pony Club team and has a thoroughbred horse called, Providence.
"I enjoy most sports and would like to become a PE teacher or physiotherapist," said Rebecca, whose first training session with Team Northumbria Junior Academy is on November 2.
