The event raised £834 for stroke patients at Bishop Auckland General Hospital, and on Tuesday, September 23, two of the principal organisers, Demi Anderson and Jenny Peart, who are both members of Henknowle Youth Club, visited the hospital with Mrs Easton's daughter, Sally, a youth worker at the club, to present £834.15p to Ward Sisters, Lynsey Burnside and Susan Clayton. The money will be used to buy equipment for the rehabilitation of stroke patients.
Ms Easton said:
My mother ran the tuck shop. She loved working at the club and being with the young people. She used to organise a fun day. She would really have appreciated what they have done. The young people wanted to hold the community fun day in her memory.
Demi and Jenny, who are both aged 15, successfully applied to the Youth Opportunity Fund for £1,000 to fund the event on Henknowle football field. Thanks to the funding, they could afford to hire attractions such as a climbing wall and buy refreshments and raffle and tombola prizes.
"I enjoyed helping to organise the event. Other students from our school were also involved. I'm pleased it did so well," said Demi
Jenny added: "It was a really good day, the weather was hot."
Ms Easton said:
The girls did really well to obtain funding. They were so involved in the planning and running of the event, I wanted them to attend the presentation. I would like to thank all involved in making the event such as success. We had some wonderful support from the community."
