All Set for Tennis

Everyone is a winner as the courts, three of which are floodlit, are also available to members of the public, at attractive rates. The tarmac courts will look even better in the summer when they will be painted with specialist green paint with white playing lines.

Ben Johnson, Director of Specialism (Sport) and Assistant Head Teacher, said: "I am delighted the courts will finally be opening. It is a fantastic opportunity for the school and the community to have high quality floodlit courts available. The courts were constructed by Thornton Contracts and we are really happy with the quality of the playing surface."

"We are working hard to increase the number and quality of coaches available and will be organising regular competitions for all ages and abilities. These courts will be available for the community throughout the year to play recreational tennis or enter local competitions. The courts also add to the school's vision of becoming a centre of excellence for racquet sports including tennis, table tennis and badminton. The programme has been fully supported by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association)."

Court hire is from £4 per hour per court in the winter (£6 in the summer) and £2 for floodlights. Membership rates range from £100 for a family of two and up to three juniors, £80 joint membership for two adults, to £60 a single adult and ££20 under 18s. There will also be a guest fee of £2 per guest.

Five pounds of the membership fee goes towards LTA membership. Opening times will be, term time: Monday to Friday 5pm - 9pm, Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 6pm. Non-term: Monday to Friday 10am - 9pm, Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 6pm.

Members can use the courts as much as they like within opening hours. Changing facilities are available in the Sports Hall next to the courts. All bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance, please contact the Sports Centre Manager, James Mather, on 01388 459468.

An official opening is to be held in early summer.
