Two students from Bishop Barrington School Sports With Mathematics College, Bishop Auckland, have been selected to be advocates of higher education in County Durham.
Year 11 students, Daniel Edmundson and Emma Gooch have been chosen by Aimhigher County Durham because of the enthusiasm they have shown when they have participated in Aimhigher events.
One of their first duties will be to attend a training event at the University of Durham on Tuesday, October 14.
Emma and Daniel said they felt honoured to have been chosen as advocates. They have both taken part in a number of Aimhigher events and activities which they have enjoyed.
To date, the highlight, for them both, has been a residential visit to St John's College at Oxford University.
"It was really good," enthused Daniel and Emma, who are both aged 15, and from Bishop Auckland. _"We stayed in dorms and attended lectures. You got to experience what university life would be like."
"I would like to go there," said Daniel, who plans to take science subjects at A level and hopes to go on to study at medical school.
Emma says she is keeping her options open. Five fellow Bishop Barrington students also went on the visit to Oxford last month (September) as part of our school's Aimhigher programme of activities.
Aimhigher is a national initiative which aims to widen participation in Higher Education by raising the aspirations and developing the abilities of young people from under represented communities.
