Monday 13 July 2009

School pupil, Louis Johnson, has been selected for the ‘North East,’ rugby team who play in the U15 Rugby League.

Louis plays for the Bishop Barrington U16 rugby team that are coached by RFL School Community Coach, Robin Peers. Head of boys PE, Martin Broom was impressed with Louis’ talents.

“Louis certainly comes into his own on the rugby field. He has been an influential player for the Bishop Barrington team and is an all round asset to the school.”

RFL coach, Robin Peers selected Louis for Durham County trials in April. Louis sailed through the trials, held at the home of the Peterlee Pumas and was invited to try out for the Regional team at Gateshead Stadium. Louis was again successful and now plays for the ‘North East’ U15 Rugby League team.

Louis’ first game was against The Midlands team and they will be playing them again at the weekend. As well as this, Louis also regularly practises and plays for Durham Tigers U16 team alongside some of his fellow Bishop Barrington Pupils. The team are based at Bishop Auckland Rugby Club.

Louis’ passion for rugby does not stop at Regional level:

“I am really pleased to make it to the regional team and I hope to progress to the next stage.”
