Comic Relief 2009

Friday 20 March 2009

Staff and students entered into the spirit of Comic Relief and raised a record breaking £1,423.08 – nearly twice last year’s total.

On the day, £1,312.62 was raised but since then more sponsorship money has come in, taking the grand total to £1,423.08, a brilliant effort.

PE teacher, Martin Broom, and four Year 11 boys, Gareth Morley, Daniel Edmundson, Mark Sowerby and Karl Schnabel underwent a hair-raising experience to raise £293. They had their legs waxed, during the lunch hour, before a packed audience.

We would like to thank beautician, Charlotte Bates, and hairdresser, Amy Carpenter, from Hair Haus salon in Bishop Auckland, who supervised the proceedings.

Other comic capers included teaching staff serving lunches in the bistro, the sale of red nose biscuits and cakes, made by the food technology department, and a number of sponsored events. Staff and students also paid to wear casual clothes and many donned fancy dress. Head Teacher, Bruce Guthrie, wore a kilt.

The event was co-ordinated by English teacher, Helen Smith.
