Gymnastics Festival

Friday 5 December 2008

Pupils from three local primary schools and a group of students from our school took part in a Gymnastics Festival.

Bishop Barrington School hosted the event, on December 1st, for pupils from St Wilfrid’s RC School, Cockton Hill Junior School and St Anne’s Primary School, and Bishop Barrington KS3 students.

Five Bishop Barrington girls, Laura Smart, Kimberley Aldworth, Sophie Dawson, Katie Haykin and Danielle Wright performed gymnastics floor exercises, set to music. Laura, aged 12, and 13-year-old Kimberley also performed a high energy dynamic routine, featuring tumbling and cartwheels.

Two Bishop Barrington boys, Andrew Ayre, Year 7, and Andrew Wright, Year 8, gave demonstrations on the trampoline.

The primary schools also performed gymnastic routines and a number of pupils also did trampolining.

A group of Year 10 BTEC sports leaders from Bishop Barrington School helped deliver the festival which was held under the banner of the Wear Valley & Teesdale School Sport Partnership.

PE teacher Martin Broom of Bishop Barrington School said: “The Gymnastics Festival was a great success. The students enjoyed taking part.”
