Disabilty award for Table Tennis Coach

Matt Porter, who is the head coach at Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club based at Bishop Barrington School, was awarded the ‘Coach of the Year’ honour at the 2018 North East Disabilty Awards held at Kingston Park Stadium in Newcastle.

Each year the North East County Sport Partnerships and a number of commercial partners, come together to deliver the North East Disability Sports Awards. The awards celebrate the fantastic achievements  athletes, coaches and clubs have made to disability sport across the region during the year over 10 categories.

“I was speechless, when the MC announced the winner was a coach from table tennis I couldn’t believe it” said Matthew “It was the biggest category and the standard was so strong, I still can’t believe it; I’m really honoured.”

Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club runs regular disability events and runs all its sessions to be inclusive allowing people with disabilities to participate alongside peers. The club currently has 3 players in the Para GB pathway.
