Durham Science and Technology Challenge Day- 26th June 2018

Durham Science and Technology Challenge Day- 26th June 2018

Twelve More Able and Talented students from year 8 and year 9, attended a STEM challenge day at New College Durham and did the school proud. The students were placed into groups with other schools and had to compete in three challenges: Robotics, Medical Analysis and EFIT (facial recognition software). Students were marked on teamwork skills, leadership skills, project management, timekeeping and communication skills, all of which were shown by our students. The day was aimed to show students that they can succeed in STEM subjects in further education and that they already had the necessary skills required to complete these challenges within STEM.

Our students were in groups who won the individual challenges and the overall winners which was fantastic! Matthew Foster and Dominic Potts were part of the group who won the Robotics challenge. Charlotte Baldam and Adam Laverick were part of the group who won the Medical Analysis challenge and Holly and Ben Douthwaite were part of the team who completed all three tasks to such a high standard that they won overall. They were presented with trophies and certificates from the Mayor and Mayoress of Durham.

Holly and Ben will now go on to compete in the regional final of the Science and Technology Challenge Day in January 2019! Well done Holly and Ben!
