Friday 18 May 2007
Talented Samantha Robson danced off with nine trophies at the recent Yorkshire Open Dance Championships at Cayton Bay.
Samantha, 15, a Year 10 student at the school, and her dance partner, Amy Cossins, 13, from Newton Aycliffe, were crowned Yorkshire Open Under 16 Champions after coming first in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Grand Final.
The pair came first in the qualifying round and then went on to win the Grand Final.
“It felt great to win, we were delighted,” said Samantha, who has been dancing since the age of five and has won more than 300 trophies.
She is a member of Andrew Tombling School of Dance in Shildon and was one of 11 dancers, from the school based at Jubilee Field Community Centre, who competed at Cayton Bay, and came away with 66 trophies, between them.
Samantha was also second in the Slow Doubles, second in the Parent & Child category dancing with a senior partner, two thirds in the pairs, third in the solo, fourth in the trios and fifth in the Street Dance. More than 300 dancers took part in the championships.
Samantha’s ambition is to become a professional dancer in the theatre, choreographer, or dance teacher.
