U14 National School Netball Competition

The U14 netball team recently took part in the North East national schools competition on Saturday 27th January.

The team qualified for this tournament after beating all teams in the North Durham round including Durham School for girls! The team is made up of a mixture of yr 8 and 9 pupils most of which play for Oaksway or Bishop Auckland Netball club and are also part of Durham’s Satellite and County squads. The girls knew it would be a tough competition, it was made up of schools from across the North East including 4 private schools. The team started off strong in their first game but were defeated by a tough Red House School team. This did not dampen the team’s spirits and they went on to win the next few games.

Unfortunately in the end the girls became fatigued and struggled to keep their winning streak. They came 4th place out of 8 schools beating all state schools but losing to 3 private schools. They should be extremely proud of the efforts and Miss McNarry thought they played awesome!!

They will be playing again in the level 3 school games after winning the local school league, they will be competing for a gold medal against other schools in County Durham.

Good Luck Girls!
