Enterprise Challenge
Thursday 22 March 2007
As part of the Business and Enterprise Challenge, Year 10 students took part in a series of tasks. Working in teams of eight, they first had to think of a name for their company and a logo, they then had design a product, produce a prototype and devise a marketing plan. Finally, they had to give a presentation to a team of judges, who included representatives from the Armed Forces, the Identity and Passport Service and Durham Education Business Partnership.
Helen Swainston, whose team won the Challenge with their Slumber Systems bunk bed, which incorporated a music system, television, and lighting, said: “It was fun but quite challenging.”
Chris Jackson, whose team came third, was complimented on his presentation. “I enjoyed giving the sales pitch. I’m not nervous about speaking in front of people. We had to work together as a team and decide what roles people should take on. I like being a leader.”
Nathan Powell, Leader of Learning Partnerships and Enterprise at Bishop Barrington, said: “The students were a credit to the school! The activity set a challenge of innovation and effective teamwork. It was extremely rewarding as a teacher to see the high levels of enthusiasm and creativity that was displayed by all the students. I can safely say, we have some strong leaders and entrepreneurs in the making!”
