Comic Relief 2007
Friday 16 March 2007
A non-uniform day proved popular with students and staff, who paid £1 each to wear casual clothes. There were lots of red noses to be seen and Comic Relief T-shirts. A number of students also donned fancy dress, and collected donations for their efforts.
Other activities included a sponsored silence, staff versus Year 11 basketball game (the students won), car washing and guess-the-number of sweeties in a jar competition. Modern foreign languages teacher, Samira Bouchti, straightened her naturally curly hair, and raised more than £70.
Our fund raising efforts, in aid of Comic Relief, began a month ago when teacher, Lynne Walker, Head of Personal Social Health Education and Citizenship, asked students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, to take up a group challenge to raise £10.
Three year 7 girls, Lucy Swainston, Emily Tray and Jasmine Edwards-Grey, raised £118 by holding a sponsored stay-awake one night. Another year 7 pupil, Rachel Legge, raised £11.50 by doing odd jobs for her mum, at 50p a time.
A group of year 7 and 8 students baked cakes and biscuits, which they sold during break times, and raised more than £80. Out of school, other groups held car washes, sponsored cycle rides, a sponsored swim, and four year 7 girls set up swear boxes at home.
To date, £1,096.73 has been raised, with some sponsorship money still to come in. Teacher Lynne Walker said: “So many students have joined in, it has been great. They have come up with some imaginative fund raising ideas and put in a great deal of effort.”
