Year 11 Celebration Evening

Every year at Bishop Barrington School, a celebration evening is held with the students and parents of the cohort that just received their GCSE results. This year the evening took place on Thursday 12th November and was judged a huge success by all who attended. The aim of the evening was to give out a variety of awards for students who were nominated by their teachers for determination, hard work and superlative achievement.

Past pupils and their parents gathered for a relaxed but very happy evening where all of the students were pleased to have worked so hard and could now enjoy the fruits of their study. Head Teacher Jackie Gent said that the record results this year were a testament to both staff and students.

“85% of students achieved at least 5A*-C grades, 62 % received at least 10 A*-C grades and 37% gained at least 3 A*/A results. Wonderful results for a superb group of students. These super results deserve to be celebrated by everyone”

Perhaps the most pleasing part of the evening was with the award of the Nick Beddows’ prize. The late Rev Nick Beddows was always an active member of the School’s Governing Body. The prize, in his memory, is awarded annually to the student who showed exceptional achievement and effort over their time at the school. In 2009 the award went to Louise Smith and was particularly well deserved. Nick Beddows took a passionate interest in students, but especially those who managed to win through, sometimes against the odds.

The evening ended with a tremendous feeling of friendship and gratitude to a school that had given these students, truly, some of the happiest days of their lives.
