Parents of athletes from Bishop Barrington’s Elite Sports Academy received a high flying workshop from former World Champion Inline Skater, Jenna Downing. As part of the school’s Elite Sports Academy, the parents received an inspirational Performance Parent Workshop from Jenna (who appeared on Sky Sports’ Game Changers last year). Jenna is the world’s number one female inline skater and ten times British Champion. A natural competitor, Jenna has competed in rollerblading events since she was eight and became the youngest ever female to turn pro aged 12.
The workshop looked at challenges and barriers faced by parents of elite athletes and possible solutions.
At the same time, the students were receiving a Nutrition Workshop from Kaye Stevenson; a professionally qualified Sports Nutrition Lecturer
The workshops were organised in partnership with Isac Mitchell and the Durham Institute of Sport. Bishop Barrington’s Elite Sports Academy supports young gifted sportsmen and women from South Durham. Director of the Academy, Ben Johnson said, “These workshops are a fantastic opportunity for the parents and the young people to receive high quality advice, guidance and support form the best people in the business”. The parents and pupils really engaged with the workshops”. For more information on the Elite Sports Academy at Bishop Barrington, visit the school’s website.
