Success for Brilliant Barrington Bobbles
Monday 18 December 2006
Group members, Maria Postma, Sasha Davison and Megan Tremble, received the award after impressing the dragons – a panel of judges which included local businessmen.
They each received a gift voucher and £100 to further develop their business. Second place went to Samantha Robson for her hand-made cards business. She received a gift voucher and £50 to develop her business idea further.
Mr Powell, Learning Partnerships and Enterprise Leader, said the judges all commented on the “enthusiasm, hard work, professionalism, and creativity,” that all the teams displayed.
Mr Powell added:
I would like to thank all the pupils who took part in the Enterprise competition, Dragons’ Lair, and for representing Bishop Barrington School in an amazing way.
Every single member of every team deserves to be proud of themselves, and although congratulations go to the winners, don’t give up with your ideas, keep being creative, keep being innovative and keep being enterprising.
As part of the school’s Enterprise Initiative, a close knit group of ten girls formed the Brilliant Barrington Bobbles knitting group. They knit in an art classroom, under the guidance of Jill Ridley, Head of the Art Department, during lunch times and sell their products to fellow students. They have also held stalls at church fairs.
The girls work out costs and have produced labels for their products and posters to market their business.
Maria Postma said: “I was a bit nervous when we went first went before the judges panel but then it was okay.”
“It was great to win,” added Sasha and Megan.
