Christmas Show
Friday 15 December 2006
English and drama graduate, Kayleigh Basey, who played leading roles in a number of productions whilst a student at Bishop Barrington, has penned Twisted Cinderella, a new version of the popular pantomime Cinderella.
“Everything is back to front and the Fairy Godmother tries to put things right,” said Kayleigh, who is working as a teaching assistant at Bishop Barrington and is shortly to embark on a teacher training programme.
In the twisted version, because of a wicked spell, Cinderella is not so nice and the Ugly Sisters are pretty.
Fellow ex-pupil, Michael Watts, who is now working as a music teacher at Bishop Barrington, is also helping produce the show. He has done all the musical numbers.
The show has a principal cast of 15 students with a chorus of 50 students. Cinderella is played by Kimberley Stephenson, a Year 8 pupil; Prince Charming is David McConnell, also a Year 8 pupil; the Fairy Godmother is Amanda McCombie, Year 10; and the baddie, Bartlebee, is played by Cieran Latcham, who is in Year 9.
The two Ugly Sisters are played by art and design teacher, Jonathan Carney, and science teacher, Marc Stuart.
Twisted Cinderella will be staged, for one night only on Wednesday, December 20 at 7pm. Tickets cost £2 each and are available from the school. There will also be a raffle, and photographs of the cast will be on sale.
