Moving Up Sessions

Tuesday 14 June 2011

We know that moving up from Primary to Secondary school is a big step. The changes and the challenges are very exciting but can be quite scary, if children and parents or carers don’t know what to expect. In order for us to help you, we offer ‘Moving Up Together’ sessions. These sessions will offer you an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about some of the things that may cause you concern, as your child moves into Secondary School. Feedback on previous years’ sessions has been very positive.

This year, we will cover the topics outlined below.

If you wish to attend any of the sessions or have any questions, please contact Mrs Michelle McKenna (on 01388 660908) or Mrs Paula Marley (on 01388 660912).

E-Safety

Thursday 30th June – 6pm

This session will be hosted by Dawn Speke, Subject Leader for ICT/E-Learning. She will explain several aspects of E-Safety of which parents and carers may not currently be aware. Ways in which the Internet can possibly be problematic for children, as well as some workable suggestions for safer and more responsible Internet use, will also be explained.

School routines and Restorative Approaches

Thursday 7th July – 6pm

This session aims to give a clearer understanding of what a typical secondary school day looks and feels like. We will explain what processes and procedures are in place for September.

Restorative approaches are used at Bishop Barrington when managing and responding to conflict. Our school uses this innovative approach when nurturing relationships between pupils, staff and parents. In this session we hope that you will gain an understanding of how we handle situations using the restorative justice techniques.
