Design Technology at Bishop Barrington is delivered in 4 specialist workshops across the school that are fully equipped and well maintained. This is so that all lessons are delivered in appropriate environments which reflect best practise in our specialisms. All the staff in the department are well qualified and experienced and provide a high level of expertise across all material areas. All department members share a common approach and work cohesively as a team to review, develop and update the curriculum.
At Key Stage 3 pupils follow a broad, balanced course that covers Food Technology, Resistant Materials, Graphics and Electronics. The curriculum has been devised to ensure that it is rich in challenge and excitement and aims to introduce students to a variety of materials and technologies. Below is brief overview of what modules the students will study in Key Stage 3.
Design Technology is also a popular option choice with students at Key Stage 4 and promotes a passion for learning and inspires young people to raise their expectations. In Year 10 pupils can opt to study the AQA Exam Board GCSE Resistant Materials, Food Technology, Graphics or BTEC Engineering. Pupils at Key Stage 4 also have the opportunity to take part in industrial visits linked to their chosen specialism.
