
Science is part of the core curriculum at KS4, and compulsory at GCSE level for all pupils.
21st Century Single Award science leads to an award of one science grade at the end of Year 11. Pupils study six modules over two years – three in Biology, three in Chemistry and three in Physics.
21st Century Additional Science leads to an award of two grades; one at the end of year 10 and one at the end of year 11. Pupils study twelve modules over two years – four in Biology, four in Chemistry and four in Physics.

Assessment is by two methods:
BTEC is 100% coursework based, where pupils build a portfolio of work rather than sitting exams. The certificate is equivalent to 2 GCSEs and the diploma is
equivalent to 4 GCSEs.

During the two GCSE years, the Science department offers all students the opportunity to take part in revision sessions both before and after school leading up to modular exams.
Revision guides will be available to buy from the Science department at a discounted price of £2.50. They are available for both Higher and Foundation levels. We fully recommend these guides to all students.
