In music, students cover a wide range of topics and have the opportunity to use a selection of musical instruments and faciltiies. In Key Stage 3, the following topics are covered:
Year 7
- The Folk Tradition - discovering Folk music and examining the musical elements.
- Latin Beat - Performing and composing music from South America.
- Cartoon Music - Composing music for cartoons using appropriate instruments.
- Pop Music - Learn about what it takes to make a great song, and how to compose and perform them.
Year 8
- Reggae - How to sing and compose music in the style of Reggae.
- Making connections - All about improvisation! Learn how improvisation is a common feature of music from around the world and perform in an ensemble.
- Music for special occasions - Find out how and why music is associated with special events, ceremonies and occasions.
- Going solo - Discover how solo opportunities are a common feature in many styles of music.
Year 9
- Blues - Learn all about the 12-bar blues and perform or sing a song based around it.
- Film Music - learn how visual imagery in films is enhanced by music.
- Cover versions - Apply the techniques used by popular artists to creating cover versions of songs.
